Halloween: Party Ideas
“Gruesome Walk”. Put together a table full of really gross things. Blindfolded your guests and then have them put their hand in or on each and tell you what they think each is before they can enter the party area.
Ideas for the table:
In one bowl you can have lots of large peeled grapes and coat them with salad oil… this will be “eyeballs”.
Next bowl you can have a bunch of LONG cooked macaroni, the kind that’s long like spaghetti but it’s hollow in the middle just like macaroni… you put some thick tomato juice in with this and it’s… “veins and blood”….
Regular elbow macaroni, after it’s cooked let it cool off, once it’s almost room temperature and sticky bunch it together so that it’s about the size and shape of a brain and let it sit there for a while so it’ll hold it’s shape. You can then, just before your guests arrive, coat it with some raw egg so that it’s slimy.
Once your guests come to the end of your “Gruesome Walk”, before you take off the blindfold, allow them to walk into a bunch of wet rags hanging from the ceiling or door frame, these should be at the right height to be at face level. You can of course use your own “gross” ideas as well. A nice piece of raw liver is always a stomach turner too! Once they’ve finished the “Walk” they can then join the rest of the party. It’s best to have someone at the door greeting guests to have them “guide” everyone through the “walk”.
Other Ideas
Hang apples from strings attached to the ceiling. The players must each eat the apples, without using their hands, as they are hanging. First one finished wins!
Bobbing for apples! Who hasn’t played this one? Fill up a large barrel or similar large containers with water. Toss in a bunch of apples. Players take turns trying to grab an apple with their teeth… no hands!
Have enough small pumpkins or even squashes for everyone to decorate their own jack’o'lantern. If the guests are too young to use knives you can do it with paper pumpkins and they can color and draw or paste their own jack’o'lanterns.
Play “Pass the Witches Broomstick”. Basically this is “hot potato” only with a broom. The guests stand in a circle and while the music is playing the kids pass the broom from person to person around the circle. When the music stops, the person holding the broom is “out”. Continue until you have only one person left! The winner!
Treasure Hunt If this is a daytime party and the weather is reasonably fine, set up a “Treasure Hunt”. Divide the kids into several groups and give them all lists of items to find. Examples: Find the following: a button, an orange leaf, a green leaf, a bottle cap, etc. You can enlist your neighbors to help with this if you like and add some household items, ie, spool of thread, a penny, etc. You’re best to list no more than 10 items. Give them a signal to call them all back, a whistle or shout, and the group with the most of the “treasures” wins. ** If you have a large house or large yard you can “hide” the items from the list around the house, yard and let them find them.
